Question: Which is the only liquid in which gold is dissolved?
Answer: Since gold is very a noble metal, it does not dissolve in conventional solvents used to leach. Gold cannot be easily converted to Au2+ cations, so in practice, it becomes dissolved in the form of complex cations Au((CN)2)-, using the alkaline cyanide solutions like sodium cyanide, indeed in the presence of oxygen as oxidant(usually air agitation is used).

gold is basically present in water around 1ppm. Now a comparative study of various liquids raise a very pertinent question, why one litre of water weighs 1 kg and other liquids like 1 litre of refined oil more viscous than water weighs only about 900 grams?
Tincture of Iodine is known to dissolve gold in slect ores, this chemical dissolution can be gainfully employed for gold refining. The process is highly safe as compared to Aqua Regia refining or Sodium Cynide leaching and subsequent refining of gold ores. The process can address many environmental issues faced by gold refining industry. Source: CoolInterview.com
