There are 7 layers of OSI models

7. Application
6. Presentation
5. Session
4. Transport
3. Network
2. Data link
1. Physical

Application layer:

The FTAM (file transfer access and management) is done at this layer. The mail services and the directory services are also performed at this layer
Eg: when the user is communicating with the network we say it working on application layer

Presentation layer:

At this layer basically three function are performed
1. Encryption
2. Translation
3. Compression

Session layer:

The session are created the synchronization is done at this layer. The communication between the devices is taking place at this layer

Transport layer:

This layer is the heart of OSI model. The unit of transmission is segments. The error control and the flow control is also performed at this layer

Network layer:

The unit of transmission is packets. The ip address is given at this layer. Routing is done at this layer which is the function of router

Data link layer:

The unit of transmission is frames. The MAC address is decided on this layer.
The access control is also done at this layer. The flow control and the error control is also performed

Physical layer:

The unit of transmission is bits. At this layer the transmission rate and transmission mode are decided. The cabling that is to be used for the network is also decided it.
