INTERVIEW QUESTIONS NETWORKING DETAILS

Question: What is TCP/IP ? what is the use of TCP/IP?

Answer: Integrated Services refers to ISDN's ability to deliver at minimum two simultaneous connections, in any combination of data, voice, video, and fax, over a single line. Multiple devices can be attached to the line, and used as needed. That means an ISDN line can take care of most people's complete communications needs at a much higher transmission rate, without forcing the purchase of multiple analog phone lines.
Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) is a cell relay, packet switching network and data link layer protocol which encodes data traffic into small (53 bytes; 48 bytes of data and 5 bytes of header information) fixed-sized cells. ATM provides data link layer services that run over Layer 1 links. This differs from other technologies based on packet-switched networks (such as the Internet Protocol or Ethernet), in which variable sized packets (known as frames when referencing layer 2) are used. ATM is a connection-oriented technology, in which a logical connection is established between the two endpoints before the actual data exchange begins.

The Internet protocol suite is the set of communications protocols that implement the protocol stack on which the Internet and most commercial networks run. It has also been referred to as the TCP/IP protocol suite, which is named after two of the most important protocols in it: the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and the Internet Protocol (IP), which were also the first two networking protocols defined. Today's IP networking represents a synthesis of two developments that began in the 1970s, namely LANs (Local Area Networks) and the Internet, both of which have revolutionized computing.

TCP/IP
tcp/ip is not a protocol it is a team of protocols. it is a reliable protocol for transmission or transport layer it uses sequence and acknowledges to communicate also this process is called three-way handshake suppose your talking in phone and says hi also that person your talking with say hi then you think that he received my hi sequence then you say etc etc the process will be same.

TCP/IP is one of the most popular model and a standard used for connection to the internet.TCP/IP is set of communication protocols for communications between computers connected to internet. In TCP/IP all the protocols work together , they perform a specific function but they interrelate and depend on each other within a standard.Internet browsers and internet servers uses TCP/IP to connect to internet.Browser uses TCP/IP to connect to server and server uses TCP/IP to send HTML back to web browser.TCP/IP software is built in all most all the major operating systems like windows, unix, linux, mac, etc.
The purpose of TCP/IP development was to allow computers to communicate over long distance network. Source: CoolInterview.com
