Question: What are the type of patterns used by Selenium Commands?

Answer: Patterns are a type of parameter frequently required by Selenese commands. Patterns use special characters to describe text rather than specifying the same text.

Following are the type of patterns used:

1. Globbing: Two special characters are supported in Selenium.
a. * which translates to “match anything,” i.e., nothing, a single character, or many characters.
b. [ ] (character class) which translates to “match any single character found inside the square brackets.” e.g.[aeiou] matches any lowercase vowel, [0-9] matches any digit, [a-zA-Z0-9] matches any alphanumeric character.

2.Regular Expression: It is the most powerful pattern used by Selenese and it is supported by high level programming languages.Selenese regular expression patterns offer the same wide array of special characters that exist in JavaScript.
